Alloys and Inoculants
Zirconium Inoculant
Zirconium-bearing FeSi-based inoculant for thin-section grey iron.
Zirconium inoculant is a ferrosilicon-based inoculant containing zirconium. In grey cast iron it increases graphite nucleation, reduces chill tendency and homogenises the structure.
Zirconium inoculants are preferred in high-silicon and thin-section grey iron production. Because of the nitrogen-binding effect of zirconium, they can also be used in charges where nitrogen-related gas defects occur. The suitable inoculant depends on the base iron sulphur level, casting section and pouring temperature.
The inoculation effect fades over time, so the addition is made close to pouring. Advice on grain size and addition rate is available on request; an analysis certificate per lot can be requested.
