Alloys and Inoculants
Grey Iron Inoculant
General-purpose FeSi-based inoculant for grey (flake graphite) cast iron.
Grey iron inoculant is a ferrosilicon-based inoculant for grey (flake graphite) cast iron. Added to molten iron shortly before pouring, it increases graphite nucleation sites, reduces chill formation and improves graphite distribution.
Proper inoculation prevents white iron formation in thin sections and improves machinability and the consistency of mechanical properties. The addition rate and grain size are selected according to casting section, base iron sulphur level and pouring temperature. Because the effect fades over time, the addition should be made close to pouring.
It can be applied in the ladle, in the stream or in the mould. Dust loss and sticking to the ladle wall with fine grain should be considered. An analysis certificate per lot can be requested.
