Alloys and Inoculants

Calcium Silicon (CaSi)

CaSi used for deoxidation and inclusion control in steel and as a treatment alloy in cast iron.

Calcium Silicon (CaSi)

Calcium silicon (CaSi) is an alloy containing roughly 28-32 percent calcium and 55-65 percent silicon. Thanks to the strong affinity of calcium for oxygen and sulphur, it is used in steel casting for deoxidation, desulphurisation and modification of oxide inclusions.

In cast iron it can be used as a component of inoculants and treatment alloys to support graphite nucleation. Because calcium has a high affinity for oxygen and the product can degrade on contact with moisture, it should be stored in a dry area in unopened packaging. In steel casting it can be applied as cored wire or in lump form.

The addition rate and method are set according to steel grade and sulphur and oxygen level. An analysis certificate per lot can be requested.

Typical chemical analysis (%)

Calcium (Ca) 28-32
Silicon (Si) 55-65

Typical ranges. Exact values are given in the analysis certificate of each lot.
