Nodular Iron Carburizer
Graphite-based carburizer with low sulphur and nitrogen for ductile iron.
Sfero carburizer is a graphite-based carburizer used to raise the carbon level in ductile (spheroidal graphite) iron charges. Because sulphur and nitrogen are critical in ductile iron, the product is based on low sulphur and low nitrogen content.
Sulphur increases magnesium consumption during treatment, and high nitrogen can cause gas defects on the surface and in the section. The graphite structure also dissolves quickly in the bath and helps make carbon recovery more predictable. It is used especially in induction furnace charges with a high steel scrap share.
Grain size is selected according to the addition method: coarse grains with the charge, fine grains onto the bath. An analysis certificate with sulphur, nitrogen and fixed carbon values per lot can be requested.
Typical chemical analysis (%)
| Carbon (C) | ≥ 98,5 |
|---|---|
| Ash | ≤ 0,5 |
| Volatile matter | ≤ 0,5 |
| Moisture | ≤ 0,5 |
Typical ranges. Exact values are given in the analysis certificate of each lot.
