Ferrophosphorus (FeP)

Iron-phosphorus alloy used to adjust the phosphorus level in cast iron.

Ferrophosphorus (FeP)

Ferrophosphorus is an iron-phosphorus-based alloy used for controlled phosphorus additions to the melt. Phosphorus increases fluidity in cast iron and helps thin-walled parts fill.

In some special cast iron grades where wear resistance is required, phosphorus forms a hard phosphide eutectic that contributes to surface strength. Because phosphorus also lowers toughness, the addition is kept limited according to the mechanical requirements of the part.

It is not used in ductile iron or in parts with phosphorus limits. The addition should be calculated taking the existing phosphorus level of the charge into account.

Typical chemical analysis (%)

Phosphorus (P) 24-28
Silicon (Si) ≤ 1,5
Carbon (C) ≤ 0,10
Manganese (Mn) ≤ 2,5
Titanium (Ti) ≤ 1,5
Sulfur (S) ≤ 0,3

Typical ranges. Exact values are given in the analysis certificate of each lot.
