Resins and Hardeners
CO₂-Hardened Resin (Alkafen)
Alkaline phenolic core and mould resin that cures rapidly when gassed with carbon dioxide.
The CO₂-cured resin is an alkaline phenolic binder that, after being mixed with sand and filled into a mould or core box, cures within seconds when gassed with carbon dioxide. It is also known as Alkafen. Fast curing brings efficiency to series core production.
Because it contains no nitrogen or sulphur, it reduces the risk of gas defects and has low odour and emissions. Since the mix does not cure until gassed, the bench life of the sand is long.
Gassing time and gas volume should be set according to core size and target strength. Cured cores should not be stored in humid conditions.
