Amine Gas
Tertiary amine catalyst such as DMEA and TEA used in cold box core production.
Amine gas is the catalyst that cures a core made of sand mixed with Part A and Part B within seconds in the cold box system. Tertiary amines such as dimethylethylamine (DMEA) or triethylamine (TEA) are generally used, passed through the core box with carrier air or nitrogen.
Gassing time, gas volume and temperature should be set according to core size and geometry. After curing, residual amine is removed from the core box with purge air. Amine gas is flammable and sensitive in terms of odour and health.
In use, suitable gas generation and delivery equipment, passing exhaust gas through a scrubber and ventilation are required. Amine tanks must be kept tightly closed and the safety data sheet followed.
