Foundry Sands
Quartz Sand
Screened and graded quartz based foundry sand with high silica content.
Quartz sand is a screened and graded foundry sand based on crystalline silicon dioxide (quartz). It belongs to the same mineral family as silica sand and is used in mould and core making where a controlled grain distribution is required.
Grain shape and distribution affect binder consumption, mould strength and surface finish. In chemically bonded systems, an evenly distributed sand with low fines content helps reduce binder usage.
Grain distribution is supplied in different options on request. Dust control and respiratory protection should be applied when handling dry sand.
Typical chemical analysis (%)
| Silicon dioxide (SiO₂) | ≥ 99,0 |
|---|---|
| Iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) | ≤ 0,07 |
| Aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) | ≤ 0,6 |
Typical ranges. Exact values are given in the analysis certificate of each lot.
