Filters
SiC Filter Series
Silicon carbide foam filter that retains slag and inclusions in the gating of grey and ductile iron.
The SiC filter series consists of silicon carbide based ceramic foam filters. Placed in the gating system, the filter mechanically retains slag, oxides and other inclusions in molten cast iron and makes the flow laminar, reducing turbulence during mould filling.
The thermal shock resistance of silicon carbide and its stability at cast iron temperatures make this series a common choice for grey and ductile iron foundries. Filter size is selected to suit the runner cross-section, and pore density (ppi) according to section thickness and the required metal cleanliness.
The filter must seat fully in the runner print with no metal bypass at the edges. Size and pore density options are supplied on request.
Typical chemical analysis (%)

|---|---|
| Aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) | ≤ 35 |
| Silicon dioxide (SiO₂) | ≤ 10 |
Typical ranges. Exact values are given in the analysis certificate of each lot.
