Exothermic Feeders
Cylindrical Feeder Sleeves
Heat-generating cylindrical exothermic sleeves that surround the riser cavity in the mould.
Cylindrical feeder sleeves surround the riser cavity in the mould and keep the metal inside molten longer, so solidification shrinkage in the casting is fed from the riser. Exothermic sleeves contain a reactive mix (aluminium and an oxidiser) that generates heat on contact with metal and extends feeder time.
The cylindrical form is the most common sleeve shape and is used for most part geometries. Using a smaller feeder raises metal yield and lowers feeder fettling cost. Exothermic sleeves are common in steel casting.
Size and modulus are chosen according to part geometry, metal type and gating. Sleeves should be stored in a dry area, as moisture reduces performance.
